CTA Honors International Literacy Week by Empowering Nanyumbu Residents Through Literacy And Sustainable Living
The Community Transformation Alliance (CTA) recently spent several days in Nanyumbu District delivering life-changing literacy training to rural residents aged 20 to 60. The program aimed to equip participants with essential reading and writing skills, opening new doors for communication and independence.

CTA’s Founder and Executive Director, Alistidia Kamugisha, explained, “Literacy is not just about letters and numbers, it is about liberation. When people can read, write, and express themselves, they become active participants in shaping their community and society.”

For many residents, this training marked a turning point in their lives. One participant shared, “Before this program, I could not even send a simple text message. Now I can call my children and write messages to my relatives. I feel connected in a way I never was before.” Another added, “This knowledge has opened my world. I no longer depend on others to read for me, I can do it myself.”
Alongside the literacy program, CTA introduced alternative and sustainable cooking methods under its “Mimi na Mazingira Yangu” (My Environment and I) Campaign. This initiative focuses on empowering women by promoting eco-friendly practices that reduce reliance on traditional cooking methods while protecting the environment.

One woman expressed her excitement, saying, “I never imagined cooking could be done differently. This method is safer, faster, and it means I can spend more time with my family and less time collecting firewood.”

Through these combined efforts, CTA continues to demonstrate that true transformation happens when communities are empowered with both knowledge and sustainable practices. The organization’s holistic approach, linking education, empowerment, and environmental care ensures that progress touches every aspect of daily life.
