Youth and Women Literacy Program
The Youth and Women Literacy Program, implemented by CTA in collaboration with Nanyumbu District in 2024, reached 90 learners (61 women and 29 men) across five centers. The program focused on providing foundational literacy and numeracy skills to youth who had never attended school due to poverty and other life circumstances, including young mothers.
Beyond basic education, the program integrated sessions on adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH), entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, peacebuilding, child protection, and mental health.
Key outcomes included:
-
76% of participants can now read and write basic text.
-
Learners gained confidence in using written materials for daily activities.
-
Some participants launched small businesses, applying literacy for record-keeping.
-
Families gained greater awareness of the importance of education, inspiring younger generations to pursue learning.
This intervention has not only strengthened literacy but also improved livelihoods, self-reliance, and community empowerment, making education a catalyst for long-term transformation.
